Today, I held a session online via Zoom. All the in-person classes are being cancelled for the moment due to the rapid increase of the Omicron variant infections.

Though there’s no scientific evidence to support the existence of the chakras, they’re part of religious and spiritual belief systems around the globe, including Buddhism and Hinduism. After a short introduction, we began to talk in depth about chakras, more in particular, the root chakra. Chakras are energy centers in our body. The word chakra is borrowed from the Sanskrit language and means wheel or vortex.

In Reiki teaching, we focus on the seven major chakras, starting from our base and running all the way at the top of our head in a vertical line up our spine. They are the root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye and the crown chakras. Each corresponds to a color, part of the body, and aspect of your energy, and you may find them linked to certain gemstones and essential oils as well.

The body parts of the root chakra include spine, legs, colon, prostate, bladder, tailbone.

It is our foundation and represents our connection with Mother Earth and our sense of groundedness in life. If the root chakra were in nature, it would be the soil in which the seeds are planted. It is the ground floor of the chakra system and lays the foundation for expansion in your life. When your root chakra is blocked, it can lead to feeling unsafe and insecure. You might feel constantly at risk of danger. When your root chakra is open, you feel grounded and safe in your body and in your physical environment. Meditation is a great way to open your root chakra because you will facilitate healing in your physical body and for your mental health.

We did a 15 minute meditation and held a short discussion afterwards. We talked about our ways to connect more fully to our physical body. Below is the document I used in class.

The picture I added is from Bryce Canyon National Park. This is how I connect with Mother Earth.
